The phrase ‘Going throught the Roof ‘ usually applies to something moving from the bottom upwards;  but just as  damaging can be penetration from the top downwards.   And it’s a much more likely event, too.

Either way roofs are tricky, but important,  things to look after.

This might be a Windows 7 thing but I can’t open the audio files on your site? The following message appears, “Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct.” Any ideas?

      Hi Colin

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. I am afraid that I don’t know much about Windows 7, but there is an alternative to streaming the audio directly from the site and you may have more success with that.

If you return to the post you were at, there is a link to ‘download’ the audio, and you should be able to do this and listen to it from your harddrive instead of streaming it.

Do let me know how you get on.

Colin Sorry about your problem; but I don’t understand a) what the problem is or (b) what to do about it. My manager (Ed) will contact you and sort it. Sorry I am so useless; I’m just a creative person…Mike

I can see why this is a prizewinner – your skillful questions produce a fascinating glimpse into a world of traditional craft, brought vividly to life by the wind in the trees and the chiming church clock. Thank you

Thanks, Di for your encouragement. It was a really good subject but I worked very hard to get it up to competition standard. Your own interview is even now speeding on its way. mike

Hi Mike, your work is sublime and I enjoy listening to your programmes very much. The quality or recording is wonderfully crisp and detailed: bravo and very well done on your recent award.

    Best wishes,

Thanks for your encouraging comments, Peter; Ed and I are planning some more releases in the New Year which, I hope, will keep up your interest.

    Hi Mike,

I’ve just listened to your ‘Weathering the storm’ piece – what a charming little documentary – I’ll be sure to return and work my way through your back catalogue.

Thanks, Andy, for responding to my blog. It’s very satisfying to know that people are sufficiently bothered to offer a comment. This subject has been a long time in the making; Chris the roofer re-roofed my old house (1840) several years ago and has become a friend. It occurred to me, several years later, that he would be a good subject to follow up. And so it proved. GoldenMicrophone 2011.

Am about to launch a very long series on a lady who was born in 1907 and who had perfect recall of …everything. She was 93 when she recorded her life story with me.If I release the lot she will run for thirty six pieces. Originally used on our local BBC radio station. So stick with it!
